Logistical and Financial Systems for Sustainable Solo Van Life

Catina Borgmann, EA
Federally Credentialed Enrolled Agent & Full-Time Solo Vanlifer

I curate the foundations of confidence, safety, and freedom.

After years of exploring, downsizing, and living on the road, I've learned that "ultimate freedom" isn't about the perfect van — it's about the systems that keep you there. I focus on Function Over Fashion. My mission is to help you bypass the "aesthetic trap" and "information overload" by curating the logistics, mindset, and practical tools you need to transition to the road with confidence.

I focus on the logistics of living, so you can enjoy the freedom of the road.

Why I'm Your Guide

I've tested the nomadic lifestyle across nearly every vehicle type to understand what truly works:

  • The Scale: I've managed the complex mechanical and logistical demands of a 33-foot motorhome — a full year of full-time living while towing a vehicle.
  • The Simplicity: I've lived full-time in a Toyota Sienna minivan using a removable, non-permanent Roadloft kit since September 2023 — no construction, no custom build, no permanent modifications.
  • The Transition: I spent years in tiny house communities in two states, learning how to create "home" and community in small spaces before ever stepping into a van.

My Roadloft Partnership

I'm a Roadloft Ambassador — and this partnership is a direct extension of my Function Over Fashion philosophy. Roadloft makes removable, non-permanent conversion kits for minivans, SUVs, and pickup trucks. No construction experience required. No permanent modifications to your vehicle. The kit goes in without tools and comes out the same way.

I've been living full-time in a Toyota Sienna with a Roadloft kit since September 2023, and it's the setup I recommend to women who want to get on the road without waiting for a custom build or a bigger budget. My next build will be a Ram ProMaster with a modular Roadloft conversion.

If you're exploring van conversions, I can help you figure out which kit fits your vehicle and your life. Use code RLVLS at roadloft.com to get a free accessory kit with your order.

Expertise You Can Trust: The Practical Side

✦ Federally Credentialed Enrolled Agent (EA)

Most van life guides focus on complex carpentry or expensive custom builds. I take a different approach because my background is built on professional precision.

I am a full-time solo traveler — usually with my dog, Henry, close by — and a Federally Credentialed Tax Professional (Enrolled Agent). I bring that same level of logistical accuracy to your journey. When I talk about residency, health insurance, and budgeting for van life, I'm helping you navigate the real-world financial realities that make this lifestyle sustainable.

An Enrolled Agent is a federally credentialed tax professional licensed by the U.S. Department of the Treasury — the highest credential awarded by the IRS. It means that when I give you guidance on domicile, multi-state tax compliance, or financial planning for life on the road, it's backed by nearly 20 years of professional tax experience, not just lived experience.

"I focus on the logistics of living, so you can enjoy the freedom of the road."

My Mission

I founded The Van Lifestylist to be the practical, relatable guide I wish I'd had. Whether you are a solo female traveler navigating safety anxieties or an aspiring nomad who wants to avoid the stress of a traditional carpentry-heavy van build, I provide the educational tools and personalized mentorship to get you on the road safely.

My audience is usually women navigating a major life transition — an empty nest, a divorce, the loss of a spouse, retirement, or simply the moment they looked up and realized the life they'd been living no longer fit. Van life often arrives as an answer to that moment. The women who pursue it aren't too late. They're exactly on time.

My Journey

My life on the road started long before September 2023. This is the arc that led here:

2016
Took a life-changing 80-day road trip across the eastern US in a Chevy Trailblazer. The trip that changed everything.
2018
Sold my house and moved to a Tiny House community in North Carolina with only what fit in the Trailblazer.
2020
Lived full-time in a 33-foot motorhome for a year, towing a car — learning the full logistical demands of large-vehicle mobile living.
2022
Moved to a Tiny House community in South Carolina.
January 2023
Published Discovering My Gypsy Soul — the story of the transformation that led me here.
September 2023
Sold my SC tiny house and officially launched full-time van life in a Toyota Sienna minivan with a Roadloft non-permanent conversion kit and my 9-pound co-pilot, Henry.
September 2025
Rebranded from GypsyWander to The Van Lifestylist — a name that reflects the practical, systems-focused brand this had become.
